		<description><![CDATA[Hi Carmen,   For pickling cucumbers I usually buy a spice mix packet (Ball makes them and I think I got it at Wal Mart last year).  I follow the directions that come with the mix.  Usually, it needs vinegar and water in addition to the mix.  I usually estimate the amount of mix needed based on the number of cukes that we get and make them a few times from one pack.  I think you need more vinegar that way, but it&#039;s cheap.  I just stocked up on vinegar at Wal Mart tonight and it was $2.38 a gal.  The pickle mixes come in dill or bread and butter.  I&#039;ve used both in the past.  I think the spice mixes have so many different things in the them, that I find it easier than making them from scratch.  This year, I found a 13 oz dill pickle mix in a plastic jar type of container and I am using it instead of the packets.  I picked it up at Bed Bath and Beyond for under 6 dollars and it makes up to 14 qts.]]></description>
