I’ve recently started using my pedometer again.  As of 9 PM this evening, I’m at 11,193 steps for the day.  That includes my workout.

The kids and I went to the J this morning.  I completed 20 minutes on the E Spinner and 30 minutes on the elliptical.  It was a good cardio workout.

I also did some stretching, biceps, triceps and abs.

We spent the rest of the day running errands and preparing for Uncle Derek, Grandma and Grandpa.  They arrived this evening for a weekend visit from Dover, DE.

The kids were still up and enjoyed saying Hi before bed.

We have lots of family time planned for the weekend.

Today, we met friends at the new Splash Park in Lyndhurst.  It’s located on Brainard Road near just west of 271.  I had heard from our friends that it was $3 for residents and $4 for non-residents.  I was pleasantly surprised that I was only charged $4.  It turns out that kids 3 and under are free with a paying adult.  So, for the rest of this season, I can take Nick and Sally for $4 total each time!  They are open 10 AM – 7 PM Monday through Saturday and 10 AM – 6 PM on Sunday.  Due to some construction delays, it didn’t open until July 10th, so it’s brand new!  There’s a small concession stand which we did not visit, but you are also allowed to bring food in and enjoy in designated areas.

We arrived just a few minutes after they opened and Nick and Sally were excited.  Nick immediately got wet and it took Sally a few minutes to warm up to the water.  It was warm and cloudy which was perfect weather.  The sun peeked out a few times too.

Here are a couple of wide shots so you can get the idea of what it’s like.

Nick really liked the slides.  He had a little trouble following the feet first rule, but after a time out, that was much better.  He also spent lots of time running around.

Sally walked up the stairs (and back down) 4 times before she let me hold her hand to sit down and use the slide.  She needed my hand another 4 times before she started going down by herself.  After the first solo trip, she went down many more times.  Eventually, she moved to the bigger green slide.  Both of the slides have water going down them.  It’s enough to make it slippery, but not too much.  Eventually, she was soaked and exhausted.

Sally sat with me for a few minutes and then Nick came up and told me he was ready to go home.  I’m hope that leaving will be that easy every time!  Both kids took 4 hour naps today.  Water play is great for wearing them out.

No formal workout today, but I’m at 9325 steps.  I ended yesterday at 12,306!

I warmed up with 20 minutes on the elliptical.  I’ve been doing 45 minutes for my cardio lately, but we had car trouble and ran late.

Normally, our station wagon has two car seats and I use it since I usually have the kids with me.  We also have a 2-door coupe that usually has one car seat.  The wagon needed some repair work done yesterday, so I had our coupe yesterday with the kids.  This morning,  Stephen left for work in the coupe along with two car seats.  That left me with two kids and one car seat.  He left work pronto and came home so we could make it to the J for my trainer appointment.  I was glad that I had 20 minutes to warm up!

Today, I had a trainer workout with Chelsea today.  My arms are well done.

They were exchanging some defective equipment, so the fitness center was busy and we moved around quite a bit between the cable area, machines and the trainer free weight room.

Push Ups:bench – 15  I think these are actually starting to get better.  Someday, I want to do them from the ground!Squat with leg lift & 18 lb ball hold: 20 on each side (not alternating)
Incline chest: 45 lbs – 2 sets of 12  This was a machine and it was pretty hard for me.
Pec Fly DB: 12 lbs – 2 sets of 15  These were also done on the bench.
Chest Press DB: 15 lbs – 2 sets These were so hard today.  I felt like a weakling.  I think it was starting with push ups!
18 lb med ball shoulder press – 8-12 reps
18 lb med ball pliet squat – 2 sets of 20
Leg Extention: 25 lbs – 1 set of 20
Lat Pull Down: wide and underhand grip 70 lbs – 2 sets of 15 of each
Bicep Cable Curl: 40 lbs – 2 sets of 12
Abdominals machine: 120 lbs – 2 sets of 20
Abs/Ball Squeeze and extend: 6 lb ball  I managed to do these for 45 seconds and then another 15 seconds.
So, inbetween all of these exercises, I was carrying the 18 pounds medicine ball.  It was heavy!  I was supposed to carry it out from my body.  It was harder than carrying Sally, and I don’t even do that much.
I really like being challenged and Chelsea has been great at mixing up my workouts.  My package will be over soon and I’m not sure when I’ll buy another one.  Don’t worry, I have lots of individaul workout ideas coming soon!

It’s almost 10 PM and I’m at 12,192 steps!

I’m thinking that a gluten free chili mac dish might be in order when my in laws visit this weekend.  I saw all of the tomatoes and immediately thought chili or sauce.  With the chili route, I could use the onion, peppers and tomatoes in one shot.  The basil will be dried or frozen for use in sauce in the upcoming weeks.  We were almost out of lettuce, so it’s nice to be stocked up for salads.  The cabbage will go into cole slaw along with the head I have from our other CSA.  The cauliflower will get eaten for lunch tomorrow.  I’m not sure about the other ingredients.  We will make an effort to use or preserve everything by Friday night as we have company for the weekend and we don’t want anything to go bad!

At 9:16pm, I’m at 7568 steps, I set a goal of 8000 for today since there was no formal exercise scheduled.  I kept busy and ran a ton of errands with the kids.  I should have no trouble with the remainer of 8000 before bed.

Breakfast
baked blueberry oatmeal
Lunch
pizza bread
Afternoon Snack
banana
Dinner
veggie lasagna
pork
zucchini muffin

I worked out for a full hour today.  Except for the days when I have my training session with Chelsea, this hasn’t happened much lately.

I set out to do 45 minutes on the E Spinner followed by 15 minutes of core/abs.

I ended up doing the 45 minutes on the E Spinner.  It was tough partly because I didn’t have on padded shorts and partly because I tried to stand up too much.  Tonight, my knee is pretty sore.  I probably wouldn’t have tried riding while standing as much if I had the correct shorts.  I learned my lesson.  I think I am just going to throw an extra pair of cycle shorts in my J bag.  I also wore my heart rate monitor for the first time in months.  I need to start working on my intensity now than my knee is getting better.  I full think today’s soreness will be temporary and not set me back.

After the 45 minute ride, instead of core/abs, I did 15 minutes on the elliptical while I chatted with a friend.

I’m taking tomorrow off, but will be running errands with the kids.  I’m planning on putting a battery in my pedometer and shooting for 8000 steps.  I have no idea how my step count has been lately, but I want to make sure I am staying active even if I don’t have a formal workout.

On Friday, I fell off the wagon.  After clean eating (no white sugar/flour type stuff) for many weeks, I ate a ton of junk food.  I can’t even begin to explain why.  In addition to good normal food, my day consisted of Oreos, Candy and Chips with Dip.  YUCK!  It didn’t even taste good and made me feel even worse.

I am fortunate to have an understanding husband who is able to go with the flow when I have a bad day.  I got right back on the wagon by dinner time.

I spent the weekend concentrating on my food, drinking water and really trying to listen to what I needed for fuel.  Tonight, while I was on a date at Blossom, we were eating some corn chips.  We actually threw the extras away when we were done with dinner.  I’m so glad that we didn’t waist them.

I’m feeling great today after a detox and productive weekend that ended with a nice date.

I feel like I’ve been going through the motions lately, but it’s time to kick it up a notch.  I need to make better plans for fruits and veggies and make the most out of my workouts.  My weight has been declining slowly (except for a gain last week) and I’d like to see the numbers continue to go in the right direction.

Next up: 45 min of cardio and 15 minutes of abs/core in the morning.
