Today, the kids and I had a great day at the J. We were running early and I was a bit worried about occupying them until I wanted to drop them off at Kid Kare, but we left the house anyway. Not 5 min after we were in the J, it started to pour. It rained and rained and was very dark. We were glad that we were dry and inside. We visited the locker room and stopped by the new Kid Kare room. Wednesday, the Kid Kare is moving into a brand new purpose built space that opens to the gym. My son enjoys checking out the construction progress. Today, they were opening and unloading new furniture and toys.
After I dropped off the kids, I did a few sets of abs and back extension and headed to spin class. Beth was back from vacation and it was a great class full of tan people who just returned from various spring breaks.
Next up: trainer workout with Chelsea and week 3, day 1 of C25K training
I’m a planner and like to have plans and schedules. Today, since it was my birthday, I planned out the whole day. I started like many of my days by taking the kids to the playroom (also known as going to the JCC for a workout). I had scheduled a manicure for my birthday, so I planned a shorter workout and shower so I could get my nails done (at the JCC spa services department) while the kids where still in Kid Kare. I ended up with a solid 30 minutes of high intensity cardio on the elliptical.
At 10am I arrived for my manicure appointment. But, I hit a snafu. The manicurist didn’t realize she had an appointment and wasn’t there. One of the staff called her and she was going to head in, but I was upset and frustrated with the lack of communication and finger pointing. Feeling rushed during my relaxing birthday manicure was not on the agenda. I was not a happy camper. I picked up the kids early from the playroom and checked at the desk to see who was in charge of the spa services staff. There really isn’t a way for them to fix this, but there are some holes in their process and for the sake of future customers, they need to patch them.
Although, I was upset when we left the J, I was determined not to let this ruin my birthday. So, the kids and I stopped at the park on our way home. I chatted via phone with my sister as the kids played and we all enjoyed the playground and a bit of sunshine. I found another place to get a manicure and headed out during nap time. I was able to thoroughly enjoy my manicure and the timing workout out in the end.
After nap time and present opening, the family headed to Akron. My parents took care of the kids and my husband and I went on a date. We headed to the Akron Art Museum to see the M.C. Escher exhibit. We really enjoyed our time there and it brought back many memories of art museums in Europe that we enjoyed on our honeymoon and other trips.
For dinner, we headed to VegiTerranean a vegan restaurant in Akron. We shared a couple of entrees and desserts and had a great time sans kids.
We don’t have many pictures of Stephen and I together, so I made a point to have one taken today.
All in all, I had a great birthday.
Next up: spinning with Beth in the morning.
In honor of my 40th birthday today, I decided not to track my points. I had a few indulgences like pumpkin pancakes for breakfasts, one cookie, dinner out with my husband including dessert and Starbucks. I didn’t really overeat with portions and made pretty good choices for my meals. It felt good to just enjoy the day and not worry about estimating all of the portions and points. Full points plus tracking will be back in action tomorrow.
Today, I ran (walk/jog combo) around the neighborhood for today’s training. It was 90 seconds running and then 2 minutes of brisk walking. I think there were 6 sets of this with a 5 minute warm up and cool down. Total time was about 30 minutes. I was able to sneak out early after breakfast and it didn’t interfere with the rest of the day’s plans.
I covered 1.7 miles and included some incline. It was only 36 degrees outside, but it wasn’t windy and the sun was shining. I’m anxious to build up to 3 miles. Next run is probably going to be on Tuesday. I’m going to start week 3 of the training so I can be on schedule. I think my body will allow the accelerated pace to get caught up.
Next up: mini workout and birthday manicure at the gym. I’ll probably do a short cardio workout to burn off some of today’s treats.
We had Fiona’s birthday party today. I indulge in a few too many treats. Many of the party points are estimates. It’s a TON of points, but it’s honest and probably pretty accurate.
BreakfastToday, I had a small window for my workout. I made the best of the time available with the following:
Next up: C25K run/walk tomorrow.
This was not a good food day. It was my first “bad” day in a while. It really helps when I am home and write/track as I go. I ate numerous little things that sure added up today.
BreakfastToday’s workout was day 3 of the C25K program. Today, I did the whole 1/2 hour session from week one. It was pretty easy. I’m really slow, but I don’t have any trouble with the 60 second run followed by a 90 second walk sequence. Since I am a couple of sessions behind, I will probably go to workout one of week two next. After the track workout, I headed to the elliptical for 20 minutes. I ended the session with some stretching.
Based on the addition of the C25K and the conversation about workout intensity with my trainer, I have revised my workout schedule/plan.
I like the ideas of keeping an eSpinner workout in my schedule. It allows me to practice spinning and a specific cadence and I really like including that in my routine. I’m hoping this schedule will fit into life next week.
Next up: short self guided strength training workout in the morning before the kids and I head to Akron for the coupon swap.
